There are many different situations you can get yourself into and many other situations that may happen around you at almost anytime and usually at the most inopportune time, a great life tactic is to assess possible situations and try to pre-plan for them, in this blog we will be going over a number of surprising extra uses for one of WeatherTechs staple products, the humble Windshield Sunshade.

1. Emergency Blanket Substitute

Reflective Sunshades can substitute as emergency blankets thanks to the similar shiny silver outer lining which can provide cover in the unfortunate case that you become lost somewhere and for one reason or another have to exit and leave your car for some time. In the dead of summer this can mean shielding yourself from the boiling sun in the day, and in the case of a desert or similar environment protecting yourself from the often surprising chill of the night as a shade can be big enough to cover a good portion of most people's bodies. They can also be used as extra cover for a camping tent, laid on top of the tent or used as blankets inside the tent, they can help keep your tent warm by reflecting the sun in the day, and helping you retain body heat during the night.

Since these sunshades are reflective on the outer facing side they will also make it easier for rescue teams flying over head to see and identify you making a rescue easier, it can be almost impossible to identify humans on the ground in certain environments even from a low flying helicopter, so having a marker that is very hard to miss and can easily move with you without weighing you down (flags or large objects) or endangering you (fire, weapons) is crucial.

WeatherTech Bonus tip: Keep one in your glove box or in a storage compartment such as your lower trunk compartment for winter just in case they are foldable and therefore do not take up much space. This is a time you may not think you’ll need this product but could easily be surprised.

2. Privacy Screen for Outdoor Adventures

Trips to the beach or the woods can result in all kinds of messes, if you often go out swimming at the beach or wading through the creek with the dog you’ll probably also think to pack a change of clothes, and in places like this there are very infrequently changing rooms of any kind, and changing in public is not usually a good choice or a choice at all, with a set of sunshades you can block out the outside world from your private property and personal business, since all the sunshades attach on the inside they cannot be tampered with by people passing by outside while you change or finish up whatever you may be getting up to in the car, it's your possession and your business so keep it that way!

Bonus tip: Keep all Sunshades in place over all windows and the windshield to keep the inside of your car from prying eyes while you're out enjoying your day by the lake or sea.

3. Portable Picnic Mat or Table Cover

A Sunshade can also be used as a impromptu picnic table food cover, especially if you have any food that needs to stay cool, laying a sunshade over a cooler with ice and beers, or a cold pasta or potato salad can help keep the food item cooler for longer and help protect from flying insects such and bees.

So remember this very simple trick to keep your food and drinks cool during the hottest times. If you have a full set of sunshades, you can use the others that are not directly in the Sun as mats and covers.

4. Light Reflector for Photography or Gardening

Since sunshades are so reflective they can be used as improvised tools when light manipulation is needed to accomplish a task. Need to take a photo but can't quite get the lighting right? Try using a sunshade as a reflector to highlight the subject, or perhaps you need to temporarily keep something delicate out of the sun such as a piece of tech or a pet contained in a pet cage, travel can require some meticulous packing skills, and the occasional rearrange can be needed, while doing so you may need to take something out the car and leave it in the sun while you 1000 piece puzzle style put the insides of your car back in place again. In that case you need to devote your brain power to the task at hand so it doesn't help when you have a ticking timer as to how much longer your bag containing your computer, or your pet in their carrier can stay out in the sun for.

5. Help Animals that Sleep Rough

If you love animals and perhaps have one in particular that visits your house but is still taking time to warm up to you, you may opt to provide the fluffy guy with temporary outdoor housing while you figure out next steps, and in the middle of winter in particular it can be downright dangerous for domestic animals to sleep outside, when it gets particularly cold you can lay a sunshade on top of the animal abode to help retain heat while the animal is sleeping inside.

You can also use a sunshade as an emergency blanket for a distressed, cold animal during a rescue, baby animals are especially at risk, they lose body heat fast and can go into cardiac arrest and die in under 10 minutes without proper intervention due to their young bodies being unable to retain heat for any long period of time. There's not a huge chance you will have a blanket stored in your car at any given time but a sunshade could and should be a staple accessory in your vehicle.

Conclusion

In conclusion your car sunshade is more than just a one trick pony, it can perform tasks you never would have known could crop up, from an emergency survival blanket to an improvised changing room your new WeatherTech sunshade can do it all and more.
